How does it work?
With DirecPC, users bypass the telephone network for the high-volume part of using the Web-receiving the data, or downloading files or Web pages. The return path takes a slight detour: all the high-bandwidth responses from the Internet are blasted back to your PC over the satellite. If you currently run DirecPC and are an AOL member, you are connecting to AOL via your Internet Service Provider's access plan. You are already broadband-enabled, and the choice is yours. You can gain access to the AOL PLUS content in your current DirecPC environment, or you may choose to switch and subscribe to AOL PLUS Powered by DirecPC. Back to Top

What is involved to convert my DirecPC system to AOL PLUS Powered by DirecPC?
For current DirecPC users, you need to purchase a new satellite modem with the AOL PLUS Powered by DirecPC dish satellite, and repoint your antenna to a different satellite. (Note: AOL PLUS dish satellite cannot operate with your current DirecPC satellite modem.) Current DirecDuo users will need to purchase a new satellite modem with the AOL PLUS Powered by DirecPC dish satellite, as well as a new antenna. Can I continue to use DirecPC service and also receive AOL PLUS Powered by DirecPC on the same dish?
No, the services operate with different dish satellite and on different satellites. You would need to install a second satellite system to receive AOL PLUS. Also, you would need a separate computer for the second system, as the stand-alone DirecPC dish satellite and the AOL PLUS Powered by DirecPC dish satellite cannot both be installed on the same PC. What about DIRECTV services?
If you have DIRECTV service already, you can keep your services subscription, set-top box, and indoor cabling. Purchase an AOL PLUS Powered by DirecPC system that supports both the AOL PLUS and DIRECTV services through the new dish. Free Professional Installation is offered to AOL members on the unlimited access plan only. Standard installation includes mounting of dish, outside cable run of 50 feet, one point of entry through exterior wall, and the placement of a wall jack, installation of DirecPC USB satellite modem, and testing of unit.
